Summer 2011 Enrichment Program

The mission of Gateway School is to educate children who have a history of academic under achievement despite average or above average intellectual ability.  The school accepts children from elementary through high school in a program designed to help them become successful students and productive members of society.

Current research indicates that youngsters tend to lose acquired skills over the long summer break. For this reason, the Gateway School is offering summer enrichment program for elementary and secondary students. Our program utilizes caring and experienced instructors, small class setting, and individualized instruction to provide a success academic environment for your child.

  • Written reports regarding each student’s performance will be provided.
  • Each class is tailored to the student’s needs in the areas of reading and mathematics.
  • Instructors are caring, experienced teachers with special education certification.
  • The Gateway School will provide instructional materials.

Gateway is a licensed, private day school for students who are learning disabled, under achieving, or unmotivated. Classes run throughout the year and eligible students may enroll any time during the academic year.

Summer Program Description

Reading Maintenance: On the elementary level, the course is

designed to reinforce and refine the student’s reading skills.

Emphasis will be placed on comprehension, sequencing, oral

reading and word attack. In addition, time will be spent on skills

needed to enhance written expression (grammar, vocabulary, spelling). On the secondary level, time spent on reading skills will be determined by individual students needs. The course will incorporate literature and writing in order to develop and/or improve skills in both comprehension and written expression.

Mathematics: On both the elementary and secondary levels, a program of remediation or enrichment is determined by the student’s individual needs.

Program Schedule:

Classes held Monday – Friday, July 25 – August 5, 2010

                        Period 1:  8:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

                        Period 2: 10:30 a.m. -12:15 p.m.

                                    Cost: $250.00

Period 2 Options:                   Mathematics – Elementary

            If a student enrolls in both periods, the cost is $450.00.
